well, if you don't change with 'em, you tend to fall behind and become more and more archaic, ponderous, and depending on your own outlook, eccentric or oblivious.

it's kinda like the technology race. when one company falls behind in R&D, it's next to impossible for them to ever reverse the slippery slope descent.
